You don't have to go all the way to New Orleans for great cajun food.

Blackwater Grill in Redfern Village on St. Simons Island offers great cajun, low country and southern coastal cuisine and a casual "fish camp" atmosphere.

Your meal starts with complimentary Lagniappe (cajun for "something extra"), delicious crackers served with a tasty spread.

Their menu features a nice variety of soups, salads and appetizers including award winning Brunswick Stew and my favorite, Boudin Fritters.

For entrees, I'm addicted to the Grouper Daufuskie, a filet of grouper served over caramelized onions and mushrooms, topped with their special Daufuskie sauce - yum. Other favorites include spicy Crawfish Etoufee, savory Shrimp and Grits, classic Low Country Boil and a melt in your mouth Filet.

Most entrees are served with two side dishes. I routinely opt for the red beans and rice and one of their always excellent vegetables of the day.

For dessert I've had the New Orleans Bread Pudding and the Chocolate Indulgence, both more than satisfied my sweet tooth.

Service is always excellent and proprietors John and Rhonda Howton and Chef Jamie Cadden could not be better hosts.

Open for dinner 7 days a week, you can't go wrong.
