Somewhat forgotten beach on Amelia Island has more dolphins than you can shake a stick at.

The great thing about living in Coastal Georgia is our proximity to so many interesting nearby places. One beach I really like is American Beach on Amelia Island, FL.

American Beach is not as crowded as most of the other beaches in the Amelia/Fernandina area -- that for me is a huge plus. That is one of the reasons I like Jekyll so much. Also you can park right on the beach in Florida, which can be very cool if you have a vehicle that can handle such.

Jekyll Island is great, but the waves are really tame. Going down to Florida the waves were bigger and it was easy for us to ride waves on the boogie board all the way into the coastline.

Maybe the coolest thing was the amazing abundance of dolphins. Not sure if it was a fluke or not, but I have never seen so many dolphins in my life. We must have seen at least 20 of them or more. Many were very close to the coastline for an intimate view.

All in all, American Beach is a great beach to visit if you are looking for something a little different from the beaches we have here in the Golden Isles.
