Review: Neptune Park Fun Zone
I have been hearing rants and raves about the new pool near the pier on St. Simons Island -- so I had to check it out. My kids and I ventured there last week, so here is a quick rundown.
Good
- There are 3 distinct pool areas. One is for smaller kids and has water slides, sprinklers, and water guns for shooting bursts at other kids. My son really liked that area and hung out there most of the day. It was very nicely done, but probably will only be of interest to kids 7 and younger.
- The other areas are a bunch of swimming areas squared off by ropes and one long swimming lane. The swimming lane was neat, but often people were just hanging in there not aware of its purpose (despite the big sign explaining that it is a swimming lane).
- There is a nearby concession stand that sells snacks, treats, and drinks. Prices were not overly high.
- A new playground is nearby and is pretty nicely done.
- A new mini-golf course was built, but we did not play. It looked nice though.
- Plenty of lifeguards on duty.
Bad
- Because of the layout of the pools and seating, there is no way you can get a seat and easily keep an eye on your kids if one is at the water slide area and the other is in the regular swimming area. I found this pretty frustrating, as I like to keep an eye on my kids.
- Seating is limited, I was lucky to find one seat to park my stuff and sit for a bit.
- Drainage is poor. I had a bag and a book underneath my chair and they both got soaked.
Ugly
- The $7 entrance fee feels a bit high to me. $3 would feel about right or maybe $5 tops. But $7 just seems expensive for entrance to a small and crowded pool. Note that they do have an family annual pass that would be a great deal if you wanted to go regularly.
